Volleyball Warriors win 15th in a row

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i volleyball team overwhelmed Stanford, 30-16, 30-24, 30-22, Thursday night in the Cardinal's Burnham Pavilion.

It was Mike Wilton's 600th NCAA victory of his coaching career. He is 600-268 in a 28-year career, including 179-118 in 14 seasons at UH. He previously coached the men's and women's teams at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.

The Warriors won their 15th in a row to improve to 19-4 overall and 15-3 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. They completed a sweep of this four-match road trip.

Opposite attacker Lauri Hakala led the Warriors with 11 kills in two games. By design, the Warriors used all 12 players on the travel roster. Sean Carney was the setter for the final two games.

"Sean came in with a mixed-plate group of guys who haven't played together in a real match," Wilton said. "Sean did a real nice job of distributing."

The Warriors return home Friday. They have four matches, all at home, remaining in the regular season.
