The headline in the March 30, 1932, Honolulu Advertiser reported on developments in the Lindbergh kidnapping case.

1915: A submarine that had sunk about a mile off Honolulu Harbor on March 25 is dragged toward shallow water.

1959: Henry J. Kaiser and Bishop Estate announce plans for a $350 million resort and residential "model city" to be called Hawai'i Kai.

1979: United Airlines, which at the time carried half of all passenger traffic between Hawai'i and the Mainland, is grounded by a machinists strike. Thousands of passengers were stranded and the tourist industry was calling the strike a catastrophe.

1981: John Hinckley Jr. shoots President Reagan outside a Washington hotel.

1984: A massive flow from the Kilauea volcano moves past the upper northeast edge of the Royal Gardens subdivision. Meanwhile, the threat to Hilo from the Mauna Loa eruption has eased.
