Shortly after noon today, flood waters rushed through the Kahala Mall theater complex and then the mall's entire ground level, setting off alarms and filling some shops with as much as foot and a half of water.

As of 1:36 p.m., all businesses on the mall's ground level had shut down and security guards were evacuating everyone still inside.

Officials said damage estimates won't be completed until tomorrow, but anything on the ground level was heavily flooded.

Toys, food, chairs and other debris were floating in brown murky water.

Mall officials believe the flood waters backed up on a street above, overflowed into the parking lot and down through the movie theaters before flooding the mall.

The flooding at Kahala Mall has forced cancelation of a fashion show and performance by Cirque Hawai'i scheduled for 12:30 tomorrow.

Also canceled are a Pure Hapa trunk show at 2 p.m. and the Pacific Place tea tasting at 5 p.m.

Sunday's Tahitian Pearl Tasting Trunk Show scheduled for 5 p.m. has also been canceled.

All events will be rescheduled for a later date.
