Sunny weather forecast this week

Advertiser staff

Enjoy the mostly sunny weather during the early part of the week because we may have a wet weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

A low pressure system to the northeast of the island chain is keeping things cool and relatively dry, forecasters said.

Daytime highs for the first part of the week are expected to be in the low to mid 80s, with temperatures dipping into the mid 60s at night, making for "good sleeping weather."

A high-wind warning will remain in effect for Big Island summits during the first part of the week.

But as the low-pressure system drifts off to the east today and tomorrow, winds in the higher elevations will relax and the trade winds should make their return.

By Friday, another weather system southwest of Kauai is expected to destabilize and moisten the atmosphere over the islands, increasing the chances of a wet weekend.
