Business briefs: First Hawaiian reports record earnings

First Hawaiian Bank today reported record first quarter 2006 earnings of $48.7 million.The bank said earnings for the three months ending March 31 rose 26.5 percent from the year-earlier quarter. First Hawaiian's assets increased 8.8 percent to $11.7 billion while deposits rose 6.4 percent to $8.6 billion.
Miller/Watts Constructors merges with Des Moines builder
Miller/Watts Constructors, Inc., a California-based company with offices in Honolulu, has merged with The Weitz Company, a general building contractor based in Des Moines, Iowa.
Miller/Watts will become Watts Constructors, LLC, A Weitz Company. Denny Watts, the former president of Dick Pacific in Honolulu, will continue as CEO of the newly named Watts Constructions. Watts Constructors specializes in heavy engineering and general construction.
