Bank robber suspect leads police on chase

Advertiser Staff

A robbery at approximately 9:25 this morning at the Bishop Street branch of Hawaii National Bank led to a police chase through downtown Honolulu and the University Avenue area.

More than 15 police cars backed by the department's helicopter chased the 29-year-old alleged robber until his capture in Makiki Heights at 9:56 a.m. The man fled the scene of the robbery on a motorcyle wearing a bandana over his face and was armed with a handgun, police said. He eventually ditiched the bike and fled on foot into the Maunalaha section of Makiki.

Officers found the man in heavy brush and arrested him without incident, police said.
