Oceangoer dies following outing

A 25-year-old man who had been riding a personal water craft on Maunalua Bay yesterday died, the city medical examiner's office said.

Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the call came in at 2:18 p.m. When lifeguards and EMS personnel arrived, a private boat had brought the man ashore.

The man, a visitor from Las Vegas, was taken to Straub Clinic and Hospital in extremely critical condition.

Cheplic said it was not apparent what had happened to the man.




WAIKIKI

GET HELP WITH MEDICARE PART D

Sage Plus and Social Security staff will be at Waikiki Community Center, tomorrow from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. to answer questions about Medicare Part D enrollment guidelines. They will have computers on hand to help people make comparisons so they can better understand the options available.

Participants should bring: A complete list of your prescription drugs; pharmacy of your choice; a list of any other prescription drug coverage; any paperwork on Medicaid, SSI, retirement plans of state/federal workers and VA/Tricare benefits.

KAHUKU

BAZAARS PLANNED THIS WEEKEND

Kahuku Hospital Auxiliary will host two spring bazaars at different locations this weekend.

The first will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Kahuku Hospital mauka lawn. The second will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Kahuku Community Village Center.

The bazaars will include baked goods, handcrafted gifts, plants and treasures.




KAUA'I

MAN-O-WAR WASH UP ON BEACHES

The county Ocean Safety Bureau has warned that stinging Portuguese man-o-war yesterday started blowing onto Kaua'i's North Shore beaches.

The animals, which have bluish balloon-like floating parts and long stinging tentacles, are called bluebottles in Australia.

Residents are cautioned to be alert and to avoid them to keep from being stung. For more information call the Ocean Safety Bureau at (808) 241-6506.



CREWS TO REPAVE ROADS THIS WEEK

Drivers on Kaua'i are advised to allow extra time or consider alternate routes while repaving jobs are under way on Hardy Street and Maluhia Road this week.

Hardy Street in Lihu'e will be paved between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. today and tomorrow. Maluhia Road, also known as Tree Tunnel Road, will be repaved during the same hours Thursday and Friday. Koloa Road repaving resumes tomorrow and will continue on weekdays for about two weeks.

MO'ILI'ILI

WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER ARGUMENT

Police arrested a 47-year-old Kane'ohe woman Sunday night after she allegedly threatened to harm a 27-year-old friend in Mo'ili'ili.

Police said the two women got into an argument after the older woman discovered her cell phone was missing. Police said the argument escalated when the older woman pulled a knife and threatened the other woman.

Patrol officers arrested the older woman on suspicion of terroristic threatening.




MA'ILI

BOTTLE ALLEGEDLY USED TO HIT MAN

Police arrested a 36-year-old Ma'ili woman Sunday night after she allegedly hit a 34-year-old man in the head with a glass bottle.

Police said the couple had been arguing about 9 p.m. when the man was struck.

The woman was arrested a short time later on suspicion of assault and abuse of a household member.




KAILUA

BAR ARGUMENT LEADS TO ARREST

A 37-year-old man was arrested Sunday in connection with an incident Friday night at a Kailua bar.

A man, 30, told police he got into an argument about 2:40 a.m. with the older man. The older man left the bar, came back with a shotgun, pointed it at the 30-year-old and threatened to shoot, the younger man reported.

The older man drove off, but the younger man spotted him Sunday and called police. The man who filed the complaint identified the older man as the one who threatened him. Police arrested the older man on suspicion of terroristic threatening.




WAIKIKI

MULTIPLE SEX ASSAULTS ALLEGED

Police opened a first-degree sexual assault investigation yesterday after a 21-year-old Wai-kiki woman told them a 45-year-old man, whom she described as an acquaintance, sexually assaulted her in his van multiple times between April 15 and Saturday.

Police are investigating eight alleged counts of first-degree sexual abuse.




KAPOLEI

MAN ARRESTED IN MARCH 14 INCIDENT

A 33-year-old Kapolei man was arrested Sunday as a suspect in a March 14 attack on a 64-year-old man from the Mainland.

Police said the two men were involved in a traffic collision in Punalu'u. The younger man allegedly got out of his car, walked up to the car being driven by the older man and punched him in the face while he was sitting in his car.
