Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i women's water polo team has received one of three at-large berths to the NCAA Championships, May 12-14, at the Schaal Aquatics Center at University of California, Davis.

UH finished second in last week's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament, losing to Stanford, 6-3, in the final.

USC (25-2), which lost to the Rainbow Wahine in the semifinals, received the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Stanford (22-4) is the No. 2 seed.

UH (17-10), which received the fourth seed, will play host UC Davis (20-11) 4:30 p.m. Hawai'i time on May 12.

Stanford faces No. 7 seed Marist (23-12) in the first game at noon, followed by No. 3 UCLA (26-4) vs. No. 6 seed Hartwick (27-9) at 1:30 p.m., and USC vs. No. 8 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (15-9) at 3 p.m.

The 2006 National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination tournament with a losers' bracket to determine places three through eight.

Last season, the Rainbow Wahine made their first showing at the NCAAs and placed fourth.
