Expect trade wind showers today

Advertiser Staff

The trade winds are on their way back, but they are bringing with them what the National Weather Service calls "typical trade wind showers, which could turn heavier by the weekend.

As the trades return, the high winds seen atop the Big Island summits over the past several days should diminish throughout the day although a high-wind warning will remain in effect at least through mid day.

Overnight low temperatures should be up a bit as a result of the return of the trade winds, forecasters said.

The winds are expected to build tomorrow, increasing the possibility of heavy showers at times for the windward side of most islands.

The temperature is expected to reach into the high 70s today and drop into the mid 60s tonight.

At 5 a.m. today the temperature was 65 at Honolulu International Airport.
