1936: The Hawaii Clipper, the third of Pan Am's seaplanes, makes its inaugural flight to the Islands and is christened on arrival.
1940: A National Labor Relations Board report that alleges the governor of Hawai'i and a majority of the Legislature are subject to the domination of the Big Five is made public by a U.S. House committee investigating the NLRB. "If there is any truer picture of fascism anywhere in the world than in the Hawaiian Islands then I don't know a definition of it," E. Eagen, former NLRB regional director in Hawai'i wrote.
1944: Lt. Gen. Robert C. Richardson ends Hawai'i's blackout restrictions, but the curfew remains in effect. Everyone must be off the streets by 10 p.m.
1954: The Territorial Health Department declares there is a polio epidemic in the Islands. It is the second polio epidemic in Hawai'i in less than two years.
1964: John Lennon and George Harrison are in Hawai'i for 24 hours en route to Australia. They go surfing, have dinner at the home of an advertising executive and mostly elude adoring fans who try to catch sight of them. "2 Beatles too wily for Honolulu fans," The Advertiser's Page One headline said.
