The May 6, 1909, Pacific Commercial Advertiser reported that the territory was about to advertise for bids for construction of the Royal Mausoleum.

1919: The Pacific Commercial Advertiser reports that Maj. Harold Clark died in an airplane accident in Colon, Panama. In 1918, Clark made the first interisland airplane flight.

1926: The Honolulu Advertiser reports there is an effort to obtain a wax cylinder on which the voice of King Kalakaua was recorded by an agent of the Edison Phonograph Co. in San Francisco shortly before the king died in 1891. The cylinder carried a message in Hawaiian. The paper said the message was: "Aloha kaua — aloha kaua. Ke hoi nei no paha makou ma keia hope aku i Hawaii i Honolulu. A ilaila oe e hai aku ai oe i ka lehulehu i kau mea e lohe ai ianei." The paper said the translation was: "We greet each other — we greet each other. We will very likely hereafter go to Hawaii. There you will tell my people what you have heard me say here."

1937: The dirigible Hindenburg crashes in New Jersey, killing 35.

1940: The territorial public utilities commission rules the five jitney operations on O'ahu must end by the end of the year and the Honolulu Rapid Transit Company will be allowed to have a monopoly in the common carrier transportation business.

1970: At least 3,400 members of the United Public Workers Union stay off their state and county jobs, reducing or halting varied public services. The walkout was prompted by the Legislature's failure to adopt a blue-collar wage increase.
