Tresnak Jr., Hendricks win Kaiwi Channel crown

Karel Tresnak Jr. and Nate Hendricks won the Starbucks Kaiwi Channel Relay World Championship race Sunday.Tresnak and Hendricks completed the 40.2-mile course from Kaluako'i Beach, Moloka'i, to Magic Island, O'ahu, in 4 hours, 36 minutes, 5 seconds.
Kai Bartlett and Patrick Dolan, the 2005 winners, came in just 20 seconds after Tresnak and Hendricks to place second.
Lauren Bartlett and Dane Ward won the women's division in a record time of 5:23:24.
The race featured one-person canoes, but each team was allowed to use two paddlers. When one paddler was in the canoe, the other followed in an escort boat. They switched positions every 10 to 20 minutes.
