Fire guts Waipahu apartment

Advertiser Staff

Eighteen people, including 12 children, were left homeless today after fire gutted their third-floor, two-bedroom Waipahu apartment unit.

No injuries were reported in the 5:12 p.m. fire at 94-321 Pupu'ole St., said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Chris Ah Mook Sang.

A 20-year-old woman and two of the children were home when the fire started somewhere in the rear of the apartment, Ah Mook Sang said. The Hawai'i Chapter of the American Red Cross offered temporary clothing, food and shelter to the family of six adults and 12 children, ages 7 months to 14 years old.
