Rain washes out OIA baseball final

Yesterday's 'Aiea-Moanalua O'ahu Interscholastic Association baseball championship game at Central O'ahu Regional Park was postponed by rain.

The game was rescheduled for tomorrow at Central O'ahu Regional Park at 6:30 p.m. OC-16 will televise the game live.

'Aiea (11-1), the West Division's No. 1 seed, is seeking its first OIA title since 2004. Moanalua (11-1), the East's No. 1 seed, is going for its first championship.

Five OIA teams — 'Aiea, Moanalua, Kaiser, Kailua and Castle — qualified for the Wally Yonamine Foundation Baseball State Championship, May 17 to 20, at Iron Maehara Stadium.

KAISER 6, KAILUA 1

Andy Uehara and Jarryd Maeda each had two hits, and Nanea Baird drove in two runs as Kaiser defeated Kailua for third place in the OIA at Central O'ahu Regional Park.

Toby Inouye and Scott Uehara combined on a six-hitter for the Cougars.

Preston Nakata had two hits for Kailua.

Lyle Kitagawa, Royce Diaz, Corey Paredes and Dallas Olsen each drove in two runs as Castle routed Leilehua for fifth place in the OIA at Hans L'Orange Park. Diaz and Barron Meyer combined on a three-hitter for the Knights.

Relief pitcher Ashkon Kuhaulua worked out of a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the seventh at Aloha Stadium to help the Warriors advance to the title game of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu double-elimination tournament.

The Raiders scored a run and filled the bases with one out when Kuhaulua was summoned. He struck out the next batter and got the final out on a fly ball.

Kamehameha will play Punahou tomorrow night at Aloha Stadium at 6:30.

JUDO

The Punahou boys team won its third consecutive Interscholastic League of Honolulu judo championship yesterday at Kaiser.

Reid Oshiro (114 pounds), Myles Mitsunaga (132), Brendan Whitt (145), Daniel Chow (161), Koji Uenten (220) and Spencer Jim-On (275) won division titles as the Buffanblu amassed 162 points to 62 by second-place Kamehameha.

The Iolani girls team won its first ILH title behind gold medals from Keiko Akamine (98), Megan Morisada (103), Carla Watase (109), Laura Petko (139) and Akemi Holmes (220).

Iolani scored 125 points to 60 by second-place Kamehameha.

WATER POLO

Kahuku defeated Roosevelt, 12-5, yesterday to win the O'ahu Interscholastic Association girls water polo championship at the Kaimuki High pool.

Goal scorers for the title game were not available.

In the third-place game, Ashlie Salas-Selem and Nicole Hagi each scored three goals as Kapolei beat Kalani, 7-5. Jenna Nakamoto scored three goals for Kalani.
