Police Beat: Traffic stop leads to arrest tied to car theft

A 21-year-old woman was arrested about 1:50 this morning at the corner of Ala Moana Boulevard and Atkinson Drive on suspicion of operating a stolen vehicle.

Police said a patrol officer pulled the woman over for a traffic offense, did a routine check on the license plate and learned 40-year-old woman had reported the car stolen from her.

The woman found driving the car was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and driving without a license.

Woman files complaint against boyfriend

Police this morning began looking for a 22-year-old man after his girlfriend told police he dragged her into her apartment and held her against her will Friday night and Saturday morning.

The girlfriend, 23, filed a complaint about 1:45 a.m. today. She said the boyfriend choked her while holding her captive and that she was afraid to file a complaint until this morning, after the boyfriend had moved out.

The boyfriend's whereabouts are unknown.

Woman arrested in apartment fire incident

A 40-year-old woman was taken into custody yesterday morning in the 2900 block of Kalihi Street after she allegedly set fire to her apartment.

Police said the woman carried a large number of newspapers into the apartment and then ignited the paper for reasons unknown.

The fire was quickly extinguished and the woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center for a mental health evaluation.

Police said she will likely be arrested on suspicion of first-degree criminal property damage once she is released from the hospital.
