  • DR. DENNIS K. CHONG has been named senior vice president and chief medical executive of Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific. Chong most recently held management positions at CIGNA Healthcare, with more than 500,000 members in the Northwest and Mountain States regions — including Hawai'i and Guam. He has also been in clinical practice and served several years as medical director of the Stroke and Neurorehabilitation Program at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan.

  • WALLY ZIMMERMANN has been named vice president of client services at Bright Light Marketing Group, a public relations and marketing agency. The 35-year communications veteran with local news agencies, and ABC and NBC, was, most recently, executive producer of KHON-TV's "Morning News." He is also former KITV-TV news director, director of communications for the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai'i and a journalism teacher at the University of Missouri at Columbia.

  • ROBERT R. MIDKIFF, longtime Hawai'i philanthropist, businessman and former chairman of Bishop Trust Co., has been named 2006 Humanitarian of the Year by the Small Business Council of America. The group is the advocate for 20 million privately held American businesses, and works to enact favorable federal tax and benefit laws in their behalf. Midkiff is also presently chairman of the Hawai'i Theatre Center.

  • WESLEY THOMAS LEONG, former controller for Sheraton Waikiki and Royal Hawaiian hotels, has been named controller of Island Air.

  • LEIMAMO LIND has been named executive director of the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association, effective June 1. She was formerly director of the Maui station of Aloha Airlines.

  • WINONA WHITMAN has been reappointed as Hawai'i's representative to the Native American Employment & Training Council by the U.S. Department of Labor Secretary, Elaine Chao. The council provides advice to the secretary of labor regarding overall operation of Native American programs for Native Hawaiians, American Indians and Native Alaskans. Whitman, who is director of Alu Like's Department of Employment and Training, is vice-chair of the council. She serves through October, 2007.

  • HOWARD HANZAWA, a 35-year civil and structural engineering and construction veteran, has been named vice president of Ka'anapali Development Corp. Hanzawa will oversee company operations and projects, including the proposed community subdivisions of Waine'e, Pu'ukoli'i and Ka'anapali 2020.

  • TADAO TANAKA has been named advertising coordinator for Atlantis Adventures. Atlantis operates Atlantis Submarines in Kona, Maui and Waikiki, Navatek Cruises sunset dinner cruises, and seasonal whale watch cruises.
