Sailboat aground but undamaged

Advertiser Staff

The Coast Guard has established contact with the owner of a 40-foot sailboat that ran aground this morning at the mouth of Pearl Harbor.

The owner, who is aboard the boat, told Coast Guard search officials that he is fine and that the boat appears undamaged and is not taking on any water. He said he will wait for high tide, about 3 or 4 p.m. to see if he can free the boat.

The Coast Guard's 110-foot patrol boat Washington went to the scene this morning but could not get close enough to drop a line to try to pull the sailboat free.

The sailboat owner will be contacted hourly by the Coast Guard to make sure all is OK.
