Police Beat: Man arrested in knife-wielding incident

A 25-year-old man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly threatened a 34-year-old man with a knife alongside Kapiolani Boulevard.

The man who reported the incident told police he was involved in a traffic incident about 3:20 p.m. with another driver, who forced him over to the side of the road. He said when he got out of his car the other man approached him, pulled out a knife and threatened him.

He said the man then started to return to his car, but turned around and approached a second time and again threatened him with the knife.

Police were called and arrested the younger man for suspicion of second-degree terroristic threatening.

Man flees traffic stop, arrested on suspicion of driving stolen car

A 23-year-old man was arrested in the Salt Lake area yesterday after he ran away when a police officer stopped him to issue a traffic citation.

The driver was pulled over about 3 p.m., and while the officer was running checks on the car, the driver took off on foot.

Police dispatchers told the officer the car had been reported stolen. The officer found him later in the day and arrested him on suspicion of unauthorized control of a motor vehicle.

Hotel security camera catches purse theft incident

Police arrested a 17-year-old Kapolei girl in Waikiki yesterday after she allegedly stole a purse belonging to a 39-year-old woman and used a credit card from the purse to buy a gift card from a restaurant.

The woman told police she parked her car at a Waikiki hotel with the windows open and her purse inside.

She said she later returned to the car and drove away but did not realize right away that her purse was missing.

The woman went back to the hotel and talked to security workers, who reviewed videotape from a parking lot surveillance camera and found footage of the girl entering the woman's car, police said.

Patrol officers were sent to the hotel to file a report and while there, spotted the girl sitting near the hotel pool. While questioning the girl, police learned she had used the card to purchase a gift certificate from a nearby restaurant.

Police arrested the girl on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, fraudulent use of a credit card and theft of a credit card.

She was later released from custody pending further investigation.

Man arrested in car-ramming incident

A 44-year-old man was arrested yesterday near the Ala Moana Center after he allegedly rammed a 35-year-old man with a car.

The younger man told police he argued with the other man, who was in the driver's seat a of car. The driver then reportedly accelerated the car toward him.

Police said the man who reported the incident apparently sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention at the scene.

The car driver was located at his home later in the day and arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault.
