Food Network on Big Island to film chefs' challenge

Advertiser staff

TV's Food Network is scheduled to be back in Hawai'i next week, shooting scenes for the "Food Network Challenge" at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa on the Big Island.

Four top teppanyaki chefs face off Tuesday, with judging on skills and accuracy in one round, and flair in another.

Four skilled pastry chefs take part in a fruit sculpting contest on Wednesday. They will have five hours to build an edible sculpture that is at least three feet tall.

On Thursday, organizers plan a Hawaiian Lu'au Challenge, with Sam Choy, Bev Gannon and two other chefs competing as to who has the best imu technique. They will race to complete three side dishes against a time limit, and the entire meal must capture "the spirit of the Islands."

Winners of each challenge on each of the three days will receive $10,000.

For those on the Big Island, "Challenge" shooting takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Members of the public can get into the audience, on the Bayview Lawn of the hotel, for free.

The hotel is at 78-128 Ehukai St., Kailua-Kona. Phone (808) 930-4900.
