Some of Friday's high school events:Kamehameha wins ILH baseball title
Kamehameha defeated Punahou, 13-9, to win the Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball title Friday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Kamehameha (12-8) was led by Mitchell Kauweloa, who went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs. Both Kamehameha and Punahou (13-5) had already qualified for the state tournament.
Roosevelt wins OIA basketball title
Roosevelt defeated Kalaheo, 52-33, to win the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I basketball title Friday at McKinley High School gym.
Tati Beasley scored 15 points and Tiana Sugui 12 for Roosevelt (14-1). Kaliko Kepa scored 15 points for Kalaheo (11-4).
Kalani wins OIA Division II basketball
Kalani defeated Aiea, 49-41, to win the OIA Division II girls basketball championship Friday at McKinley High School gym.
Chloe Martin scored 14 points for Kalani (12-1), and Tasha Helsham scored 14 points for Aiea (8-5).
Kamehameha wins ILH basketball tournament
Kamehameha defeated Iolani, 45-40, to win the Interscholastic League of Honolulu girls basketball tournament Friday at McCabe Gym.
The win gave Kamehameha a berth in next week's state tournament. Regular-season champion Punahou has the ILH's other state berth.
Tatriana Lorenzo scored 21 points for Kamehameha (8-4). Jamie Smith scored 17 for Iolani (9-4).
St. Francis wins ILH D-2 hoops tourney
St. Francis defeated Word of Life, 57-46, in the championship game of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II girls basketball tournament Friday at McCabe Gym.
Siutiti Takai scored 16 points for St. Francis (14-2). Careena Onosai scored 17 points for Word of Life (10-5). Both teams, along with regular season champion La Pietra, had already advanced to the State Division II Tournament.
Hawaii Baptist third in ILH D-2 hoops tourney
Hawaii Baptist defeated Christian Academy, 56-33, to take third place in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu's Division II girls basketball tournament Friday at McCabe Gym.
Carissa Onuma scored 16 points for Hawaii Baptist (10-5), which earned the ILH's fourth berth in the State Division II Tournament with the win. Ashley Medcalf scored 24 points for Christian Academy (6-9).
Baldwin's Lusk, Kahuku's Tutor top qualifiers in state track
Baldwin's June Ann Lusk and Kahuku's Redmond Tutor were the top multi-event performers in the trials of the Island Movers/HHSAA State Track and Field Championships Friday at Kamehameha Schools.
Lusk was the top qualifier in the 100-meter dash (12.74 seconds) and 100-meter hurdles (15.79), and was fourth in the 200 (26.33). Her 4x100 relay team advanced to the finals, and she is expected to run in tonight's 4x400-meter relay for Baldwin.
Tutor topped qualifiers in the long jump (22 feet, 5 inches), 110-meter hurdles (14.81 seconds), and 300-meter hurdles (40.48). He also was second in the triple jump (45-9›) behind Damien senior Kealoha Pilares (46-1).
The finals are Saturday at Kamehameha.
Kamehameha, Kahuku in state water polo final
Kamehameha defeated Roosevelt, 17-2, and Kahuku topped Hilo, 7-3, in the semifinals of the high school girls Local Motion State Water Polo Championships Friday at the University of Hawaii's Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Kamehameha (10-1), which had five goals from Karie Nickle, meets Kahuku (15-0), which had five goals from Gina Ahue, in Saturday's championship match at 2 p.m.
Defending champs reach tennis finals
Punahou's Mikey Lim and St. Francis' Kalei Gora remained on track to successfully defend their state championships Friday at the Carlsmith Ball State Tennis Tournament at Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club/Po'ipu Kai tennis courts on Kaua'i.
Lim, the No. 4 seed, knocked off top-seeded teammate Skyler Tateishi, 7-6 (3), 7-5 in the semifinals. He will face No. 2 seed Spencer Mendoza of Kealakehe in today's final.
Gora beat Waipahu's Christie Pagatpatan, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals. She will face second-seeded Brooke Doane of Kamehameha Schools today in the final.
