Rainbow Wahine advance in NCAA water polo

Kelly Mason scored all three of her goals in the fourth period and Anna Sieprath scored five goals to lead No. 4 Hawai'i to a 12-7 victory over No. 5 UC Davis in the first day of the NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship in Davis, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine (18-10) play No. 1 Southern California (26-2) in the semifinals on Saturday. The Trojans defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 27-2. No. 2 Stanford meets No. 3 UCLA in the other semifinal.

Hawai'i and UC Davis were tied at 2 after the first period, at 4 after the second period and at 7 after three periods.

Mason scored with 5:53 and 4:49 to go in match to give UH a 9-7 lead. Iefke Van Belkum added a goal with 4:08 remaining and Mason scored her third goal with 2:40 left. Van Belkum scored the final goal with 1:34 to go. Rainbow Wahine goalie Meike De Nooy shut out the Aggies in the fourth quarter.
