Rainbow Wahine to play Nevada for WAC softball title

Third-seeded Hawai'i rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat top-seed Fresno State, 6-5, and advance to the best-of-3 championship against No. 4 Nevada in the Western Athletic Conference softball tournament at Fresno, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine (31-20) and Wolf Pack are both 3-0 in the double-elimination tournament. Nevada eliminated New Mexico State, 1-0, on Friday. The WAC tournament champion earns a berth in the NCAA regionals.

Fresno State scored three runs in the bottom of the third before UH scored two runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

Kristi Yoshizawa hit a two-run homer in the sixth to give UH a 4-3 lead. Brandi Peiler hit a two-run single in the seventh. Yoshizawa also had a run-scoring single in the fourth.

Fresno State scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh before Courtney Baughman replaced UH reliever Jessica Morton and got Merryann Barr to ground out to end the game.
