1935: The destroyers Sicard and Lea collide a mile off Diamond Head. One sailor is killed and four enlisted men are injured. The fatal collision occurred during war games off O'ahu.
1937: Kuluwaimaka Kapihenui Palea, who had been chief chanter of the court of Kalakaua, dies. He was nearly 100.
1950: Bishop Estate announces a $2 million housing project in Kapalama.
1959: Wai'anae residents support a $12 million cement plant at Ma'ili during a tense 2 1/2-hour meeting. Henry Kaiser accused the Dillingham interests of making an unsuccessful attempt to "bamboozle" the Legislature into blocking the Permanente Cement Co. plant. Industrialist Walter Dillingham and his son, Ben, were at the meeting and faced a hostile crowd. Kaiser was frequently applauded, but the Dillinghams received only perfunctory applause, The Advertiser reported.
1966: The Advertiser reports that the master for the 79th annual account of Bishop Estate has recommended the estate sell a large portion of its land holdings. At the time, the estate owned 10 percent of all the land in Hawai'i. The master criticized the estate for not making enough income in proportion to the value of its vast land holdings.
1970: Campbell Estate unveils a 20-year master plan to develop its lands at 'Ewa into a new "second city" for O'ahu and a resort at West Beach.
