Top three seeds reach semifinals

Marissa Young scored two goals and Alyssa Fuchsberger, Healani Fisher and Lana Dang each added one, leading Roosevelt to a 5-3 win over No. 4 seed Lahainaluna yesterday in the first round of the Local Motion State Water Polo Championships at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

The Rough Raiders advanced to today's 3:45 p.m. semifinal against No. 1 Kamehameha.

In other first-round games, Kamehameha rolled past Kamehameha-Hawai'i, 19-5; No. 3 Hilo held off a fourth-period rally by Kapolei for a 10-9 victory, and No. 2 Kahuku cruised past Kalani, 16-2.

Kahuku takes on Hilo in today's second semifinal at 5 p.m.

Hanalei Crowell and Nanea Fujiyama each scored four goals as the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Warriors took a 4-1 lead after one period, made it 10-3 after two periods and never looked back.

O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion Kahuku got three goals from Meme Moody and two each from Tania Sifton, Shannon Ching, Gina Ahue and Mika Bailey to roll past the Falcons.

Dana Goya scored four goals and Kaipo McKeague added three for the Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Vikings, who led 9-5 after three periods, only to see the Hurricanes rally with four goals in the fourth period.

Ashlei Salas-Selem scored four goals and Nicole Hagi three for Kapolei.

In today's consolation bracket, Kamehameha-Hawai'i plays Lahainaluna at 1:15 p.m. and Kalani takes on Kapolei at 2:30 p.m.

All games will be played at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex at the University of Hawai'i lower campus.
