Punahou's Lim, St. Francis' Gora win state tennis titles

Advertiser Staff

Punahou extended its domination Saturday at the Carlsmith Ball/HHSAA State Tennis Championships. The Lim and Gora dynasties also lived on at Kiahuna Swim & Tennis Club.

Mikey Lim defended his state high school singles championship to lead the Punahou boys to their 16th straight team title, and 38th in the tournament's 48-year history. Lim beat Kealakehe's Spencer Mendoza, 7-5, 6-3, in the title match. It was also the fourth Lim title in five years, with Robbie Lim winning in 2002 and 2003.

St. Francis senior Kalei Gora closed her high school career by winning a third consecutive girls title, 6-4, 6-3, over Kamehameha's Brooke Doane.

The Punahou girls, like the boys, had their fourth straight title (32nd overall) clinched by the quarterfinals.
