Honolulu's Michelle Wie, 16, shot an even-par 72 today at Turtle Bay's Palmer Course and was the top qualifier at O'ahu's U.S. Open local qualifier.

According to USGA officials, Wie is the first female to advance to a sectional qualifier for the U.S. men's Open.

Wie will play in the New Jersey sectional June 5. Generally, one of every 13 sectional players advances to the U.S. Open.

The 2006 U.S. Open is June 15 to 18 at Winged Foot in New York.

Three spots were given to the O'ahu qualifier.

Mid-Pacific pro Joe Phengsavath shot a 1-over 73 to qualify.

Three players — Regan Lee, Tadd Fujikawa and Chan Kim — tied at 74. They played off for the final spot. The other two will be alternates.
