Kaua'i dams in need of attention, inspections say
Advertiser Staff
All 54 Kaua'i dams inspected by state and federal teams are in need of attention and have conditions that could lead to future failure, according to visual inspections conducted following the fatal Kaloko dam breach of March 14.Results of the inspections were released late this afternoon.
The inspections, conducted by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers, show no dams are in immediate danger of failing, but all have conditions that need to be addressed.
These conditions include detrimental vegetation growth, reduced spillway capacity and erosion.
The inspections have been posted on the DLNR home page at www.hawaii.gov/dlnr/reports/dam-inspections/
