Crews clean "minimal" crude oil spill

Advertiser Staff

Crews from Clean Islands Council and the Marine Spill Response Corporation are cleaning up a Tesoro oil tanker spill today that occurred at around midnight at the single-point mooring about a 1.5 miles off Barbers Point, according to the company.

Tesoro spokesman Nathan Hokama said the incident happened at around midnight when the tanker Front Sunda was delivering light crude to a floating buoy and one of the hose lines disconnected from the tanker. He said the operation was halted immediately and the spill appears to be minimal.

So far the Coast Guard agrees with that assessment, although spokeswoman Petty Officer Jennifer Johnson said the Coast Guard is investigating and will continue to monitor the situation.
