Swimmer injured by kayaker

Advertiser Staff

A 50-year-old woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition this afternoon after she was run over by a kayaker 100 yards off shore in waters off Waikiki.

At 2:29 p.m. today, city Emergency Medical Services technicians assisted the woman, who was pulled from the water by other swimmers and surfers after she was found unconscious, floating face down. The woman was floating for about two minutes, said Bryan Cheplic, city EMS spokesman, and suffered a "very large" laceration to the back of her head.
