1909: Striking Japanese workers at the 'Aiea and Waipahu plantations are evicted.
1933: In a special message to Congress, President Roosevelt requests that the law requiring the governor of Hawai'i be a resident be temporarily suspended.
1948: Bishop Estate announces plans for a new business district to cover 32 acres in the area of Wai'alae Avenue and Keala'olu Avenue.
1968: The University of Hawai'i Board of Regents fires controversial professor Oliver Lee and accepts the resignation of UH president Thomas Hamilton. Students at a sit-in cheered the news that Hamilton was leaving and booed the announcement that Lee had been fired.
1986: Royal Hawaiian Air Service, Hawai'i's oldest and largest commuter airline, shuts down after 21 years. Royal had been the only carrier to some of the smaller airports in Hawai'i.
