Police Beat: Bank officials help snag suspect in forgeries

Advertiser Staff

When a 24-year-old woman yesterday attempted to cash an alleged third bogus check, employees of a Kalihi bank were waiting.

Police said the woman, who is a suspect in two check-forging incidents that occurred last week, walked into the bank and tried to cash a third check while apparently unaware that bank officials had faxed notices about her suspected transactions to all of its branches.

Police were then called to the Kalihi bank. They identified the woman as the likely check forger in the two earlier cases and arrested her in connection with those cases as well as yesterday's attempted transaction.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of three counts of second-degree forgery.
