CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are asking for the public's help in obtaining information about two recent incidents that occurred in the Waikiki area.

In the first incident, a woman was eating lunch at about 2:30 p.m. May 5 at the Hau Tree Restaurant in the New Otani Hotel was approached by a young man who grabbed her purse from the back of her chair and ran toward Kapi'olani Park.

Another man at the restaurant chased the purse-snatcher and caught up with him in the park, at which point the purse-snatcher reportedly brandished a large knife and collapsible baton and threatened to kill the witness.

The suspect was last seen running toward Paki Avenue and Noela Street.

He was described as being in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds, with a tan complexion. He was wearing long baggy blue-denim pants and pink boxer shorts.

In the second incident, police are looking for a man who was last seen with another man who was later found dead in a Waikiki apartment.

At about 6 a.m. April 29, the man sought by police was seen with the decedent on a surveillance video in an elevator at the Island Colony Resort.

Both males were then seen together in the victim's room by a roommate. The roommate then left to go to work and returned hours later to find the roommate deceased.

The man sought by police is about 5 feet 11 inches tall, 150 pounds, with a tan complexion and short, black wavy hair. He appears in the surveillance video wearing a blue blazer and black pants.

Anyone with information about either case is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300, or *CRIME on your cellular phone.
