Hunt is on for would-be bank robber

Advertiser Staff

Police are asking the public for help identifying a man who tried to rob the American Savings Bank, Pearl City branch located at 850 Kamehameha Highway on May 18.

At about 3:30 p.m., a man approached the teller and demanded money, police said.

When the teller backed away the male jumped onto the counter area and tried to grab the cash drawer, police said. Seeing the man on the counter, the branch manager threatened to call the police. The man turned and ran out of the bank and was seen getting into an older, white, late- model sedan with a square roof line and a tail light that runs the full length of the rear of the car, police said.

Anyone with information about this person is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300, or *CRIME on your cellular phone. Free cellular calls are provided by Cingular, Nextel Hawaii, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless Hawaii.
