Police Beat: Arrest in punching purse-theft incident

Police arrested a 31-year-old man in downtown Honolulu yesterday after he allegedly admitted to assaulting a 45-year-old woman.

The woman told police she was crossing the street at the corner of A'ala and North Beretania streets about 10:30 a.m. when the man suddenly punched her in the face three times and kicked her right leg out from under her, causing her to fall to the ground and drop her purse.

Police said the man was walking away with the woman's purse when officers arrived, at which point he dropped the purse and told the officers what had transpired. The woman identified the man as the person who assaulted her and he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery.

Teller spots suspect check

Police arrested a 24-year-old woman in Wahiawa yesterday after she allegedly tried to cash a stolen check.

The woman walked into the bank about 11:20 a.m. and presented a check a teller, police said. The teller immediately noticed the account the check was drawn on had been closed and that the signature on the check did not match the former account holder's.

The bank called the former account holder who said she closed the checking account about a year ago after her personal checks were stolen during a car break-in.

Police were called to the bank and arrested the woman who tried to cash the check on suspicion of second-degree forgery.

Woman arrested in bedside attack incident

A 42-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a May 12 incident in which a 77-year-old woman told police she was assaulted while sleeping at her home in 'Ewa Beach.

The older woman told police she was awakened about 11 p.m. by the younger woman who entered her room, threatened to kill her and struck her in the face and on the body several times.

The younger woman left before police arrived and the older woman received a cut to her left eye and bruising elsewhere on her body.

Police caught up with the younger woman yesterday and arrested her on suspicion of first-degree burglary, third-degree assault and first-degree terroristic threatening.

Man arrested in alleged sexual assaults

A 37-year-old man was arrested yesterday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 66-year-old Honolulu woman earlier this month.

Police were told that the man sexually assaulted the woman on three separate occasions on May 10. They said the woman who filed the complaint identified the man in a photo line-up.

He was charged with three-counts of fourth-degree sexual assault yesterday and his bail was set at $6,000.

Teen's report leads to arrest for alleged sexual assaults

A 31-year-old man was arrested yesterday as a suspect in a sexual assault case reported by a 14-year-old girl.

The girl contends the man, who is an acquaintance, sexually assaulted her in 'Ewa Beach on more than one occasion while she was between 12 and 13 years old.

Police arrested the man yesterday on suspicion of three counts of first-degree sexual assault and three counts of third-degree sexual assault.

Man arrested in backpack theft incident

A 34-year-old man was arrested at Kaka'ako Waterfront Park last night on suspicion of second-degree robbery.

A 44-year-old man told police he was getting ready to leave the park about 10 p.m. when the younger man took his backpack.

The older man said when he asked the man to return the backpack, the younger man dropped it on the ground and argued. The younger man then reportedly picked up the older man's bicycle and threw it in the shoreline water.

After retrieving his bicycle, the older man noticed the backpack was missing and called police.

Patrol officers arrived within minutes and saw the suspect walking through the park.

Police said he tried to push past one of the officers and run, but was stopped and arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
