Police Beat: Teens arrested trying to buy liquor

Advertiser Staff

Two teens, 16 and 14, were arrested last night after trying to buy liquor and pulling a knife on a store employee. A third teen, 19, was also arrested this morning after punching another store clerk who stopped him from buying beer at a different store.

The first incident happened in Kalihi, where the store owner stopped two teens at about 7:45 p.m. The 16-year-old then grabbed two bandanas from a display case and took off. An employee chased after the teens and when he caught one, the other drew a knife, police said.

Both teens were later caught and arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and fourth-degree theft.

In a separate incident at about 3:55 this morning, a manager saw two young men at a grocery store near Waimalu Plaza Shopping Center lurking in the liquor aisle, police reported. When he told them that liquor wouldn't be sold until 6 a.m., one tried to leave the store with two 12-packs of beer. The manager stopped him, but one teen, 19, punched him. The manager and other employees managed to detain the teen until police arrived and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
