Advertiser Staff

Despite two double bogeys, Punahou sophomore Stephanie Kono shot a 2-over-par 74 and finished third at the Thunderbird International Junior in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Former local resident Kimberly Kim shot a 4-over 76 to finish fifth with a 220 total over the 6,271-yard Raptor Course at the Grayhawk Golf Club. Moanalua freshman Tadd Fujikawa shot an even-par 72 for a 227 to finish tied for 30th in the boys' competition, whose course covered 7,113 yards.

Kono, the state high school champion, carded three birdies, a bogey, but was derailed by double bogeys on the par-3 fifth and par-3 16th. She birdied the par-4 ninth, par-4 15th and par-5 18th for a 218 total, three shots back of the winner, Isabelle Lendl of Goshen, Conn.
