Hapa wins Hoku award for contemporary album

The award for the duo of Barry Flanagan and Nathan Aweau's six-times nominated "Maui disc was the first presented on the live KFVE televised broadcast of the annual awards ceremony honoring local recording arts.
Technical and non-broadcast awards announced earlier in the evening included the following:
i Liner notes: Puakea Nogelmeier, Keali'i Reichel and Fred Krauss for "Kamahiwa: Keali'i Reichel Collection-One" by Keali'i Reichel (Punahele)
i Graphics: Solomon Enos, Barry Flanagan, and Scott Johnson for "Maui" by Hapa (FINN)
i Compilation album of the year: "Aloha Festivals Hawaiian Falsetto Contest Winners, Vol. 6" by Various Artists (Hula). William Baba Alimoot, Steve Kramer and Donald P. Flip McDiarmid III, producers
i Anthology album of the year: "Kamahiwa: Keali'i Reichel Collection-One" by Keali'i Reichel (Punahele). Keali'i Reichel, Jim Linkner and Fred Krauss, producers
i Engineering: Wendell Ching and Tommy Hall" for "Maui" by Hapa (FINN); and Gaylord Holomalia and Kapono Beamer for "Slack Key Dreams of the Ponomoe" by Kapono Beamer (Kapono Beamer Enterprises)
