Kane'ohe Marine's recipe makes benefit cookbook

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i-stationed Marine Staff Sgt. Daniel G. Newcomb has a way with meat — he has a recipe in the new book "Command of the Grill: A Salute to Steak." That's his dish in the picture: portobello mushroom steak. The Weber grills company put together the collection of recipes from military folks to benefit four charities that aid families of wounded and killed Marines. The recipes are winners from a series of grilling competitions held at 10 military installations across the country, along with dishes from famous former Marines. The book costs $10 and can be ordered at www.commandofthegrill.com. All proceeds go to the charities.

The crustacean-filled menu additions and daily specials include fried green tomatoes with blue crab Creole sauce, softshell crab po' boys, deviled crab rolls, and blue-crab-stuffed quesadillas. And the drink special? The Crab Catcher, of course, a mixture of Absolut Mandarin vodka with fresh strawberries and pink lemonade.
