A 43-year-old man was charged last night with running over his pregnant girlfriend with a car Monday morning in Nanakuli.

Glen T. Meyers Sr. of Nanakuli was charged with second-degree attempted murder and auto theft. He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

At about 6 a.m. Monday, police said a man, identified as Meyers, ran over his 26-year-old girlfriend near his Haleakala Avenue home. Police did not say what led to the incident.

The woman, who was eight months pregnant, was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. Her condition was upgraded yesterday to stable condition, police said.

Police said doctors performed a Caesarean section and delivered a boy. The condition of the baby was not available last night.

The driver of the automobile fled the scene Monday. Police surrounded Meyers near his home and he surrendered without incident.

Meyers' criminal history includes two convictions for second- and third-degree sexual assault, and a criminal trespassing conviction in 1991. He was sentenced to two concurrent 10-year terms on the sex assault charges, according to records with the Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center.
