Schools stayed open despite heavy rain

Advertiser Staff

No public schools were closed early as a result of today's heavy rains, aside from Kilohana Elementary on Moloka'i, which was closed all day, according to the state Department of Education.

Wednesday is an early release day at almost all the schools, so most public school students across the state were dismissed by 1:30 p.m. and school buses were running as usual.

A-plus and other afterschool programs will stay open until all students have left the premises, the DOE said. If they need to close early, parents will be contacted.

Schools where all the students have been dismissed have been given permission to let teachers and staff who live in affected areas go home early.

So far, no school closures are planned for tomorrow, but the DOE will release updates if that changes.
