Flash-flood warnings extended for Kaua'i, O'ahu

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has extended its flash flood warnings for Kaua'i and O'ahu through late afternoon as heavy rains continue to hit both islands.

The warning for O'ahu has been extended to 4:15 p.m. and the Kaua'i warning to 5 p.m.

Downpours on the windward side of O'ahu have caused runoff and localized flooding, in addition to the landslide that has closed the Pali highway near the tunnels.

The O'ahu flood warning covers the windward communities from Hau'ula to Waimanalo, and the weather service warned that other areas may experience flooding as well.

On Kaua'i, police have closed Kuhio Highway near the Hanalei Bridge, where water is flooding across the highway.

While heavy rains had dropped off from earlier levels, rivers were still running high.
