1909: Electric streetlights illuminate Manoa Valley for the first time.
1910: Archibald Cleghorn, governor of O'ahu during King Kalakaua's reign and father of the late Princess Ka'iulani, dies at his 'Ainahau home at the age of 74.
1917: The Advertiser reports that vandals had forced the lock of the iron doorway of the tomb of King Lunalilo, in the Kawaiaha'o church yard, and stolen the silver crown that had rested on the koa casket as well as a silver plate descriptive of the monarch. The Advertiser reported that a priceless feather cloak worn by the king was in the casket but was not disturbed.
1991: The Advertiser reports on the death the previous day of Charles K.L. Davis, one of Hawai'i's beloved old-school entertainers. He was praised as a gentleman who believed in the aloha spirit and shared everything with everyone.
2004: The Defense Department reports that seven Hawai'i-based Marines were killed and 10 injured the previous Saturday in a suicide car bombing in Iraq.
