Flood warning lifted for O'ahu, but watch remains

Advertiser Staff

A flash-flood warning was lifted for O'ahu but the island remains under a flash-flood watch that also includes Kaua'i, Molokai, Maui and Lanai, the National Weather Service said.

The flash-flood watch will continue to 6 p.m. Several O'ahu communities on windward and east O'ahu received heavy rain during the warning period, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with the heaviest rain falling in Hawai Kai, said Maureen Ballard, forecaster and meteorologist.

At one point the gauge at the Hawaii Kai Golf Course recorded a rainfall rate of 4 inches per hour, she said.

Conditions are improving on O'ahu, Ballard said.

"The overall trend is better but the rain is not going to all of a sudden stop and it becomes sunny," she said. "We are getting there, though. There should be showers this evening and overnight."

The weekend will be drier than the last two days, she said, but with light winds out of the south, it will be humid and sticky.
