Rain leaves some without power

Hawaiian Electric Co. repair crews were busy this morning restoring power to customers around the island whose service went out during the heavy rain showers.
Jose Dizon, corporate communications director for the utility said:
About 1,000 customers were without power in Haleiwa between 8:52 and 9:10 a.m.
About 1,000 customers in the Kalihi, Iwilei and Sand Island neighborhoods lost power beginning about 7:30 a.m. Power was restored to about 200 of them by 8:40 am. and all but one of the remaining customers by 10 a.m. Service to the final customer was restored by 11:15 a.m.
A small number of customers in the Maunalani neighborhood of Kaimuki were without power from about 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. today, Dizon said.
