Contra-flow lanes on Pali helping windward commuters

Advertiser Staff

Contra-flow lanes opened as planned on the Pali Highway at 4:30 a.m. this morning to help windward drivers get to town following the landslide yesterday just outside the Honolulu side of the Pali tunnels.

Honolulu-bound traffic is being rerouted into the Kailua-bound lanes near St. Stephen's Seminar and is being routed back to the Honolulu-bound lanes in the area where Upper Nuuanu Pali Drive connects with the Highway.

Beginning at noon, the two open lanes will be used for traffic heading to Kailua.

Meanwhile, heavy rain over much of O'ahu this morning is resulting in slower-than-normal traffic conditions throughout the island.

No roads have been closed at this point but collisions or other problems have been reported at the following times and locations:

5:24 a.m., collision in the east-bound lanes of the H-1 freeway at the Waikele off-ramp in Waipahu.

5:24 a.m., collision in the east-bound lanes of the H-1 Freeway at the H-1/H-2 merge in Waipahu.

5:07 a.m., collision in the east-bound lanes of the H-1 Freeway near the Waikele off-ramp in Waipahu.

5:05:07 a.m., collision on Mapunapuna Street near the 99 Ranch Market.
