Chinatown Wi-Fi plan delayed until next year

Advertiser Staff

A plan to offer free Wi-Fi wireless Internet access in Chinatown has been pushed back until next year as officials with Honolulu and EarthLink finalize contractual terms covering the project.

EarthLink plans to pilot the free service for one year at no cost to the city. The service was supposed to be available by the end of summer. However, that date has ben pushed back until early next year, said Gordon Bruce, the city's chief information officer. Officials hope to sign a contract soon and begin engineering studies by year's end, he said.
