Zipper Lane reopened near H1/H2 merge

David Waite
Advertiser Staff Writer

Wet weather and the hour-long closure of a portion of the Zipper Lane in the Waikele area have resulted in slower than normal traffic on the H-1 Freeway

in the area between the Kunia Road on-ramp and the Aloha Stadium.

An accident earlier this morning sent one or more segments of the concrete Zipper Lane wall jutting out into the west-bound lanes of the freeway.

The problem was resolved and the Zipper Lane was reopened by about 6:40 a.m.

But the back-up caused by the temporary closure will take time to dissipate.

The flow on the H-1 picks up again in the area near Radford High School but slows almost to a halt at the Middle Street merge. From there, the going

remains very slow until once past the downtown exits.

Traffic coming into town on the Pali Highway is moving along nicely despite motorists have to use a contra-flow section between St. Stephen's Seminary

and Upper Nuuanu Pali Drive due to yesterday's landslide near the Pali tunnels.

The Pali Highway will be used for town-bound traffic only until noon and Kailua-bound traffic only from about 1 p.m.

Workers will use the time between noon and 1 p.m. to reconfigure the highway.

The drive in from Hawaii Kai begins to stack up on the Lunalilo Freeway prior to the Koko Head Avenue overpass in Kaimuki.
