Attempted copper theft leads to contaminated oil spill

Police have arrested a man who allegedly chopped down an old electric pole while attempting to steal copper near Koko Head District Park.The Honolulu Fire Department was called at 9:45 a.m. to clean up oil that spilled from the transformer container. Oil from the old containers contain PCB, a cancer-causing agent.
The fire department is taking samples of the soil around the pole and checking those who may have been exposed to the oil.
No other information was available at this time.
