Citing expenses, Kaiser cutting 45 employees

Advertiser Staff

Kaiser Foundation Health Plan Inc., the state's largest health maintenance organization, said it will let go about 45 employees because expenses are exceeding revenues.

The cuts shouldn't be apparent to the 225,000 people who get healthcare provided by Kaiser, the company said.

Spokeswoman Lynn Kenton said about 1 percent of the Kaiser's 4,769 workers will be told by mid November whether their jobs are being eliminated.

The plans include contracting out some of its medical transcription work, affecting 15 positions.

Kaiser has been trying to bring down costs for more than a year and has in the past delayed pay increases for its non-union workers and leaving positions vacant positions unfilled.

The healthcare company said it also will continue to look at other cost-saving through next year.
