The Diamond Head home built by the founder of Aston Hotels & Resorts is being auctioned with a minimum starting bid of $9.8 million, well below the April 2005 asking price of $19.8 million.

Kennedy Wilson and Coldwell Banker are handling the auction of the home André Tatibouet had custom-built about five years ago. The home with six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and five half baths was put on the market when Tatibouet filed for bankruptcy protection from creditors last year.

In court papers, Tatibouet, 65, listed $42.1 million in assets but $68.6 million of debt.

The home called Pualeilani was built by Tatibouet and his wife — former Hawai'i Republican Party head Jane Tatibouet — to resemble the Lodge at Koele on Lana'i.

The home is on a 68,000-square-foot lot at 3131 Noela Street and has 12,799 square feet of covered living area and 6,000 square feet of lanai space.

The deadline for sealed bids is Dec. 5.
